How to Set up a Back Translation

Back translations are a step some clients would like to ensure quality. Back translations can be done in WordBee as a “CodYt” Project. Back translation consists of 3 steps 1. Translation 2. Back Translation 3. Back-validation.

Instructions

Here is how to set up a back translation project in wordbee:

Set up a new CodYt Project

  1. If you had the translation done as a regular project, you will need to transfer the files/memory to the new job. You should finalize and complete the files from the translation.

    1. Start a new Project in WordBee. (Go to Projects, New Codyt Project)

    2. Complete the “Details” Section (Use the LinguistLink Number/Name as “reference”, select the Client, Price list, Word Count profile should be “Mindlink”)

       

    3. Complete “Requirements” Section. Select language(s), etc.

    4. Select “Save & Continue”

You can select “Preset from Template” next to “Requirements” and use the template “back translation”

Go to “Workflow & Suppliers” settings (if you used the template, this step may not be needed).

  1. Select Edit

  2. Click “Preset workflow”

  3. Select “back translation basic”

  4. Click “Ok”

Set Resources

  1. Select “Resources” option

  2. Add the Project Memory by selecting “Add”

Set up the “Documents”

  1. Go to the 2. Documents tab

  2. Upload the SOURCE documents (English)

  3. Mark for Translation

Perform Translation

  1. Go to 5. Jobs tab

  2. Select “Manage” next to translation job.

  3. Assign the translation (if you are applying the memory, you can assign to “Supplier Stacey”

  4. Change the status to “In progress”

5. Select the arrow next to “manage” and select “translate”.

6. Go to “Actions”, “Language Actions”, Select “Translate from Memory”

7. Go to “QA Checks”, Run Quick QA Check.

8. Complete job by selecting the status button.

You may get an alert for quality issues. As long as it is not for “missing translations”, you can move on to the next step by selecting “validate”

Back translation

  1. Once the Translation step is finished, you should disable the project memory for the back-translation step. Do this by:

    1. Go to “1. Project Settings” tab

    2. Select “Resources”

    3. Remove the project memory

  2. you can return to the tab “5. Jobs”

  3. Go to the Back-translation job and select “manage”.

  4. Assign the linguist who will be performing this step. Select the deadline, cost information etc.

  5. Click “Save changes”

  6. The project will be sent to the linguist

Back validation

  1. Go to “5. Jobs” tab

  2. Manage the back-validation task

  3. Assign yourself (or “Supplier-Stacey”) to the task

  4. Select “translate” from the arrow next to “manage”

  5. Text on the left is the source translation, text on the right is the new translation. Review for discrepancies.

  6. Complete the task

  7. Export a report by selecting “Document”, Export, Create Report,

Any questions or clarifications should go to the original translator.

Select Report “Document translations, revisions and comments”

Select Generate and Download.
